A Senior Dog Survives Alone In The Snow For Two Weeks And You Wont Belive What Happened

Azure Davis had given up hope of finding Old Lady alive.

The 10-year-old Saint Bernard had been missing for 17 days in the Minnesota wilderness, and she didn’t even have a thick double coat to keep her warm in the frigid temps.

Ruff Start Rescue founder Davis hadn’t known Old Lady for long, but she hoped against hope that the shy senior dog was tougher than she appeared.

In early January, Old Lady was one of 400 dogs rescued from a local puppy factory. Ruff Start Rescue volunteers found her a foster home. Things took a turn for the worst before the dog could even step inside her makeshift house.

“Old Lady was picked up by the foster and taken to her home,” Davis told The Dodo. “As soon as the foster pulled her out of the car on her leash, Old Lady was startled by the crunching ice sound and bolted down the slippery driveway, dragging the foster with her.”

Davis worked with The Retrievers, a volunteer group that assists in the recovery of lost pets, to reunite Old Lady with her family. While search groups returned empty-handed, the squad was encouraged to keep hunting after a few probable sightings.

Nothing appeared to be able to entice the scared dog out of its hiding place as the days passed. “This is one powerful and swift dog, especially for her senior age,” Davis commented on Facebook.

Davis’ optimism waned as the temperature dipped to minus ten degrees.

Davis then got the call she had been waiting for on Monday.

The dog had been seen in the woods by a guy and his two grandkids. Old Lady’s leash, which she had been dragging for almost two weeks, had finally served its purpose.

“A branch became entangled in her leash, and between the leash and the branch, she became entangled in the woods and trapped,” Davis wrote. “Thank you, God!” It’s the only way we’d have been able to get her.”

Davis and her associate Julie Lessard approached Old Lady with caution, slipping a leash around the trembling dog and cutting her free from the tree.

Their hunt had come to an end, and they couldn’t believe it.

“I think her willpower to live stems from living in a barn her entire 10 years of her life and having to be strong,” Davis continued.

After her big adventure in the wilderness, it seems Old Lady is finally ready to settle down and accept a little human kindness. “One of the women who helped search for Old Lady … actually fell in love with her while searching for her from her photo,” Davis said. “She has Saint Bernard experience and she has a lot of shy/timid dog experience so it was a perfect match.”

“I believe her drive to survive originates from her ten years of living in a barn and needing to be tough,” Davis concluded.

Old Lady seemed to be ready to settle down and accept a little human love after her huge experience in the outdoors. “While searching for Old Lady from her photo, one of the women who assisted in the search fell in love with her,” Davis added. “She has Saint Bernard experience as well as a lot of experience with shy/timid dogs, so it was a fantastic fit.”
