In Her Own Maternity Shoot, Rescue Pittie Shines

Mama Pickles was seen strolling about alone in early September, and it was evident that she needed assistance. Animal control police swiftly removed the 2-year-old pit bull from the streets and sought to determine where she had come from. They were able to contact her owners, who decided they no longer wanted her and chose to abandon her at the shelter.

Mama Pickles was extremely pregnant and in need of more specialized care than the shelter could give, but she was quickly rescued by Pits & Giggles Rescue, which specializes in caring for pregnant and nursing mama dogs, as well as their offspring. The adorable pit bull couldn’t wait to meet her new rescue pals and couldn’t help but leap all over them for attention and kisses. Her large tummy made it harder to move about, but it didn’t stop her.

Sykes, the owner of Enchanted Hills Photography, donates her time to photograph the dogs and pups at Pits & Giggles Rescue in order to help them find homes. Everyone knew Mama Pickles was the perfect candidate for a maternity picture session as soon as she arrived at the rescue — and the results were better than anybody could have anticipated.

“She couldn’t sit still because she was so happy,” Sykes added. “She enjoys attention and rewards, so she was delighted to join!” The most difficult thing was persuading her to remain because she adores people!”

Everyone laughed at Sykes’ attempt to pose Mama Pickles for the shoot since she was such a diva. She’d strike the most ferocious stances anybody had ever seen, only to completely sabotage them with her ungainly belly and funny demeanor.

Sykes described it as “hilarious.” “She’s all belly and a little clumsy, so getting her positioned wasn’t a problem, but getting her to sit still long enough for a photo was a challenge!” We couldn’t help but giggle because her bows were uneven, coming off and tripping her up – she’s such a cartoon!”

Despite the distractions, Sykes was able to snap some beautiful, charming images of the joyful mama-to-be, and was overjoyed that Mama Pickles was finally receiving the love and respect she deserved.

“She’s a model,” Sykes said. “Her legs are far too small for the runway, but she seemed to enjoy all of the attention and affection.”

All that was left after the shoot was to wait for Mama Pickles’ offspring to arrive — and they didn’t have to wait long! Mama Pickles gave birth to eight healthy puppies over the weekend, all of them are beautiful little ladies like their mother.

After giving Mama Pickles and her babies some time to recover and relax, Sykes and the rest of the rescue team felt it was only right to have a newborn photo shoot as a follow-up to the previous one — and Mama Pickles was even more proud this time, standing beside her lovely puppies. She’s already a fantastic mother, ensuring the safety and well-being of her two daughters at all times, and everyone is really proud of her.
