Dog That Was Trapped Underground For 60 Hours Now Just Wants A Belly Rub

A family was out walking their dog Winston through the woodland of Diamond Jubilee Wood in Leicestershire when he fell into a tunnel covered by a holly shrub on the side of the road.

Winston seemed to have become imprisoned in the thick muck of the badger-made tiny tunnels and was unable to escape after his curiosity led him into this mess.

Winston’s adoptive mother, Heather, alerted the various rescue teams in the county, but Winston’s rescue would be difficult due to badger protection laws. As a result, it is suggested that everyone wait 48 hours after a dog has gone missing before taking any action.

According to the BBC, Heather said:

“It’s been a nightmare for the past few days. Knowing Winston was confined makes us feel powerless.”

The woman asked the authorities to get a permission, but received no answer until Tuesday, when she received excellent news. Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service stated they reacted to the call before noon and did not hesitate to arrive at the location after nearly three days.

Firefighters were joined by three specialist search teams and an RSPCA team when they arrived.

Heather continued, ”

“When the firefighters began searching for him, we were convinced we had already lost him and were emotionally preparing for the worst.”

They were able to identify Winston’s muted barks and determine exactly where to dig in order to rescue him thanks to GPS and sound equipment. Because the rescue had to be done cautiously to avoid everything collapsing, the team had to beg for assistance to continue the excavation.

Heather had this to say:

“When we finally saw her small face peeping out of the muck, I fell into tears again.”

Winston was freed after five hours by rescue personnel, who were able to take him out of the land where he had been confined for 60 hours.

Winston was taken to the RSPCA right away for a health check before being reunited with Heather.

When he saw her, the first thing he did was roll onto his back and ask for his belly to be stroked, which his mother gladly did. He was also lavished with attention, and since he was stranded in the mud for over three days, he most certainly received a lot of dog shampoo.
