People Are Knitting Sweaters For This Rescued Hairless Possum

If it hadn’t been for a person who dropped it off at the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, this hairless opossum would have died tragically (SPWRC). Peach, a little opossum, has an uncommon health issue called alopecia, which causes her to lose all of her hair.

Peach would not have survived the harsh winter since the body coat of hair is essential for controlling the temperature of this species of marsupial.

The man discovered the marsupial in SW Lubbock, Texas, and felt he had to save her as soon as he spotted her.

The individual dropped off a box in front of the rehab center’s admissions building, which was caught on camera by Gail Barnes, executive director of SPWRC.

When they opened the box to see what it was, a small hairless hand peered out, surprising them and leading them to believe it was a cat.

They discovered it was a 3-4 month old opossum and promptly placed it in an incubator for recuperation.

Peach’s plight was explained in a Facebook post by the rehabilitation clinic, who stated that owing to her health, she would not be able to live in the wild. They asked for winter garments so Peach could be warm in the cold, and people generously supplied.

Many internet users with hairless cats have donated clothing, while some are crocheting sweaters just for Peach.

Peach is doing well and has managed to double her weight owing to the extra attention she has received.

She wears knitted sweaters that people have donated to her every day, and the treatment clinic posts pictures of her in her new attire.
