The majority of the photographs taken by Indian wildlife photographer Mithun H, 31, who specializes in cats. However, he had a tremendous wish that he had yet to realize because of the challenge he represents: to catch a leopard and a panther simultaneously.

While Mithun had previously been able to capture Saaya the panther and Cleopatra the leopard in separate photographs, he waited almost four years to get them together, and the results are simply spectacular. The stunning photographs depict the panther’s jet black as the shadow of the leopard that stands in front of it.

“However, the wait was worthwhile. I could wait six years for something like this,” the cat enthusiast boasted.

Longtime friends Saaya and Cleopatra had many adventures together in the Karnataka woods of Kabini, so when Mithun was around, he realized it was the opportunity he had been waiting for and was unwilling to let it pass him by.

The man stayed put for six days straight till he got the image he wanted; he could hear the animals mating but not see it. The long-awaited meeting finally took place, and magical infatuation started just as a chilly winter dawn was breaking.

In typical courting couples, the male usually assumes leadership and goes first, with the female trailing closely behind. But with this couple, it was clear that Cleo was in command and the Panther was just following. A single alarm brought me to this stunning scene on a strange winter morning, when I took this photo, said Mithun.

When the photographer posted the pictures on social media, the article soon went viral. Internet visitors were astounded and awed by the majestic creatures’ appearance, and remarks of adoration were common.

“I’ve never seen a pair that magnetic! How magnificent nature is, a user of social media said.
