Orphaned Baby Elephant Staggers Into A Village Asking For Help

A 1-week-old baby elephant wobbled into a boma (a livestock enclosure) in the Ndoto Mountains in Kenya and was taken in and cared for by Samburu tribesmen. The tiny elephant calf was weak and its umbilical cord was still fresh. He had sadly been separated from his mother and herd.

One of the Samburu tribesman walked for over a day to get help for the baby elephant and The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was contacted and immediately sent a helicopter to rescue the animal.

Ndotto, as the baby has been named, arrived at the Nairobi Nursery by helicopter on August 7, 2014. Ndotto is now receiving a special milk formula, elephant plasma and the attention he so desperately needs to survive.
